Music is definitely an essential part of my runs. Sure, I get what those who run sans headphones find appealing about hearing the birds singing, the wind blowing, and the sound of their own breathing. But where I live and run, also comes the sound of cars driving by and horns blaring. I have a very short commute to work (so grateful) therefore, other than listening to NPR on my 3 minute commute, I don’t listen to the radio. I rely on my iPod and iTunes to get me pumped up whether getting ready for a night out, lifting weights, or running a marathon. I absolutely love iTunes because I have discovered some really great music that gets me in a mindset that I may not otherwise be in. I played Black Eyed Peas “Meet Me Halfway” about 7 times in a row at the end of the New York City Marathon…Fergie really pumped me up for a strong Boston qualifying finish! Thanks, girl! This fellow is a French artist named Woodkid that I was introduced to thanks to an Absolut Vodka commercial. He’s a well known music video director having directed the “Teenage Dream” video for one of my favorites, Katy Perry. There was something I just couldn’t forget about his voice. I downloaded some of his tracks and uploaded them to my iPod. It’s not conventional running music, but there is something about the beat in his music, the instrumentals, and of course his voice that makes my legs go faster. It almost puts me into a trance. Check out some of his songs, I really love: Ghost Lights, I Love You, and Iron. Who is someone that gets you to the finish line?
